UK Visa Application Centre in Dubai: Booking, Biometrics and What to Bring

The UK visa application centre in Dubai is where you prove your identity after applying online — you cannot start there. gov.uk requires the online application first, then one appointment at a centre for fingerprints, a photograph and your documents. You get your passport back the same day, and a decision usually within three weeks.
This guide covers what gov.uk publishes about that appointment and what it does not. For the application itself, our UK visit visa service prepares the file; see also our guide to the UK Standard Visitor visa from Dubai.
The order of events, and why it matters
gov.uk is unambiguous: “If you need a Standard Visitor visa, you must apply online before you travel to the UK and attend an appointment at a visa application centre.”
So the centre is step two, not step one. People who turn up expecting to start an application there are turned away, and people who book an appointment before finishing the online form end up rescheduling.
- Check whether you need a visa at all. gov.uk: “Depending on your nationality, you may not need a visa to visit the UK.” Some nationalities need an electronic travel authorisation instead, and some need nothing.
- Apply online and pay. “Once you’ve started your application you can save your form and complete it later.”
- Book the appointment. “As part of your application, you need to book an appointment at a visa application centre.”
- Attend, give biometrics, hand over documents.
- Wait for the decision — usually three weeks.
One timing rule catches people out: “The earliest you can apply is 3 months before you travel.”
What happens at the UK visa application centre in Dubai
gov.uk sets out the appointment itself in three lines. At your appointment, you will need to:
- “prove your identity with your passport or travel document”
- “have your fingerprints and a photo (biometric information) taken”
- “provide the required documents that show you’re eligible for a Standard Visitor visa”
And on what you take home with you the same day: “You’ll get your passport or travel document back on the same day. The visa application centre may keep some of your other documents while processing your application. You’ll be told what they’ll need when you apply.”
That last sentence is the answer to the most common worry we hear. Your passport does not stay at the centre on the day of the appointment. Some supporting documents may.
Applying as a family
Each person is a separate application, and a separate appointment. gov.uk: “If you’re applying with family members, each person must have their own application and pay the fee. They need to attend their own appointment at a visa application centre.”
There is one concession: “You can apply on behalf of your partner and child, if they cannot apply for themselves.” That is about completing the form, not about skipping the appointment. Our guide to applying as a family covers the same problem for the Schengen area.
UK visa fees, as published today
Read from gov.uk on 13 October 2026. These change; check the page on the day you pay.
| Visa | Fee | Maximum length of stay |
|---|---|---|
| Standard Visitor visa | £135 | 6 months |
| Standard Visitor visa for medical reasons | £234 | 11 months |
| Standard Visitor visa for academics | £234 | 12 months |
| 2 year long-term Standard Visitor visa | £506 | 6 months per visit |
| 5 year long-term Standard Visitor visa | £903 | 6 months per visit |
| 10 year long-term Standard Visitor visa | £1,128 | 6 months per visit |
One refund rule is worth reading before you pay: “Your application will not be accepted and you will not get a refund if you have the right of abode in the UK (for example you’re a British citizen). You need to apply for a certificate of entitlement instead.”
How long a decision takes
Note what starts that clock. It is not the day you paid; it is the day you completed all three — application, identity, documents. An appointment booked three weeks out pushes the decision three weeks further out too.
What is not published anywhere official
gov.uk publishes the rules, not the building. The centre in Dubai is run by a commercial operator on the Home Office’s behalf, and the following are on the operator’s own site rather than on gov.uk. We have not reproduced any of them here, because the operator’s site was not readable from our systems on the day of writing and we do not print an address or a price we have not read at source:
- The address and opening hours of the Dubai centre, and whether there is more than one in the UAE.
- Whether appointments carry a service charge, and how much.
- Optional services and their prices — priority and super-priority processing, prime-time appointments, courier return, keep-your-passport, lounge services.
- Any appointment waiting time in Dubai. gov.uk’s three weeks is a decision time, not a queue.
- Whether a walk-in is ever possible.
Those details live with the operator UK Visas and Immigration appoints, and gov.uk links to it from the application itself. Read them there, on the day, before you budget.
Our advice — practical guidance, not a rule
Marked as advice because no official page prescribes it.
- Finish the online application before you look at appointments. The booking belongs to the application; it is not a separate thing you can hold.
- Count backwards from the trip, not forwards from today. Three months is the earliest you may apply, three weeks is the usual decision, and the appointment sits between them.
- Take the documents on the list you were given. gov.uk says you will be told what is needed when you apply. That list, not a generic one from a forum, is the one that matters.
- Book one appointment per person. A family of four is four applications, four fees and four appointments.
- Check the operator’s page for the address and any extra charges on the day, from the link in your application.
If you would rather hand the whole file over, our UK visit visa desk prepares the application, the document set and the appointment, and tells you what the Home Office actually decides on.
Frequently asked questions
Where is the UK visa application centre in Dubai?
Its address and hours are published by the commercial operator that runs it for UK Visas and Immigration, not by gov.uk, and your online application links to the right one. We do not reproduce an address we have not read at source.
Can I apply for a UK visa from Dubai?
Yes. You apply online first, then attend an appointment at a visa application centre to prove your identity and give biometrics. gov.uk notes the centre could be in another country, so check which one your application routes you to.
What documents do I need for UK visa biometrics?
Your passport or travel document, and the supporting documents that show you are eligible. gov.uk says you will be told exactly what is needed when you apply.
Will they keep my passport?
Not on the day. gov.uk: you get your passport or travel document back the same day, though the centre may keep some of your other documents while the application is processed.
How long does a UK visa take from Dubai?
Usually within three weeks of completing the online application, proving your identity and providing your documents. The appointment date therefore sets when that three weeks begins.
How early can I apply for a UK visitor visa?
Three months before you travel, which is the earliest gov.uk allows.
Do children need their own appointment?
Yes. Each applicant needs their own application, their own fee and their own appointment, even where a parent completes the form for them.
