Portugal D7 visa from Dubai
The Portugal D7 visa from Dubai lets you live in Portugal on passive income: pensions, rental income, dividends, interest or royalties. It is one of Europe's most accessible residency routes, with a path to permanent residency and citizenship eligibility. “D7” is the market's name for it: Portugal's own visa portal publishes this route as the residency visa for retirement purposes, religious purposes or for people living from passive income.
You enter on the D7 visa, then convert it to a 2-year residence permit at your AIMA appointment in Portugal. After 5 years of legal residence you can apply for permanent residency and citizenship, subject to nationality-law requirements. See all routes on our Portugal Residency page.
Why Portugal: 320+ days of sunshine and a world-class coastline, living costs well below Western Europe in Lisbon, Porto or the Algarve, consistently ranked among the world's 10 safest countries, SNS public healthcare for residents, family included under reunification, and free travel across 29 Schengen countries.

D7 visa FAQs
How much income do I need for the Portugal D7 visa in 2026?
€920 per month (€11,040 a year) for the main applicant, plus 50% for a spouse and 30% for each child.
Can I use my salary for the D7?
Consulates increasingly refuse D7 files built on active salary. Salaried remote workers should apply for the D8.
What counts as passive income?
Pensions, rent, dividends, interest and royalties.
How much savings should I show?
€11,040 — twelve times the €920 Portuguese minimum wage — held in an account at a bank in Portugal and shown with a recent statement, and more for families. That is what Portaria n.º 1563/2007 requires and what the Portuguese consular D7 checklist spells out, so open the account and fund it well before your appointment.
Do I need accommodation before applying?
Yes. A 12-month lease or property deed in Portugal is required at submission. We support the rental agreement.
How long is the D7 residence permit?
The first residence permit is 2 years, issued after your AIMA appointment in Portugal.
Can the D7 lead to citizenship?
You become eligible to apply after 5 years of legal residence, subject to nationality-law requirements.
